All unadopted animals are returned to the shelters/rescue groups where they came from once they completed their time as an Olds College AHT Program Animal.

AHT Pet Adoptions

All of our animals come to us homeless, intact, and usually quite young. These animals come from local animal shelters, usually after they have been looking to be adopted for some time.

Once an animal arrives the students (under the supervision of a veterinarian) will proceed with:

  • admitting
  • examinations
  • blood work
  • vaccinations
  • deworming
  • and any other treatments that may need to be completed.

When the animal has been confirmed healthy they will be anesthetized by the AHT students and spayed or neutered by the veterinarian.

The students provide post surgical care for 3-5 days after surgery. After the post surgical care, the animal is ready to go home.

How to adopt a pet from AHT

  1. Our students book times for potential owners to come through and view the pets for adoption.
  2. Each potential owner must complete a "Potential Owner" form and bring it to the viewing.
  3. We will put your name and phone number on a list and call you when the animal is ready to go home.
  4. You will then be given an appointment to come and pick up your new pet! The adoption fee is $100.
