Gordon Ernest Grettum
Agriculture Class of 1942
October 29, 1923 – January 12, 2007
Gordon Ernest Grettum (GEG) was born October 29, 1923 in Camrose. He attended school at Daresbury; he completed his Agricultural training at Olds College. In 1945, Gordon purchased his first quarter of land so he and his bride, June Sleen could establish their family farm. They were married on November 20, 1946. Gordon and June have shared 60 years filled with love and devotion. Together they raised three children – Kathy, Roger and Colin.
Throughout his life, he was actively involved as a leader of the 4-H Beef and Dairy clubs, the Dairy Control Board and numerous community associations. Gordon continued to farm throughout his life, while actively pursuing his many passions. These included music, dancing, cards, curling and social gatherings with friends and neighbors. Gordon was a man of faith; he loved the land, he loved his animals but most of all he loved his family.
Gordon is survived by his loving wife June; his daughter Kathy Niven and Bob Warren, his sons Roger and Barb (Sledz) and Colin and Barb Grettum. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought him endless joy – Lowell, Shelly, Braeden and Avry, Lee, Daniel, and Bree, Jeff and Melissa, Eric, Dustin, and Chad. Gordon also leaves to mourn his brother Bob and Fran Grettum.
Gordon’s “remedies for life”, his wisdom and generous spirit will be long lasting. His footsteps will remain on the land and serve as a legacy for all those who loved him.
Your comfort and support are greatly appreciated and gratefully acknowledged.
