Stanley Lloyd Rosin
Agriculture 1969
1948 - 2007
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Lloyd Rosin at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday, March 26, 2007 at the age of 58 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Stan was born on September 26, 1948 in Hanna, Alberta to Erna & Reinhold Rosin. Stan grew up with his older brother Wes and his younger sister Cindy on the family farm in the Handhills district southwest of Hanna, Alberta. He took his elementary schooling just down the road at the Elmer School and then attended Hanna High School in Hanna. Stan, Wes and Cindy were all very active in the local 4-H and Stan won many awards. Stan was an active participant in the local track meets and also played hockey. Upon completing high school Stan received a 4-H scholarship to attend Olds College and enrolled in the 2 year agricultural program there. In the second year he met the love of his life, Susan.
After graduating from Olds College, Stan worked briefly at a seed cleaning plant near Prince Albert, SK. He returned to Alberta in the spring of 1970 and started a job as an assistant grain buyer for the UGG elevator in Delia, Alberta. On May 2, 1970 he and Susan were married and settled down on a little acreage south of Delia. In September, 1970 they moved to Hanna, Alberta when Stan was transferred to the UGG elevator there. Then in April, 1971 Stan accepted the position of Assistant Agricultural Fieldman with the MD of Starland, so he and Susan moved to Morrin, Alberta. On May 13, 1971 a daughter, Pamela was born. In November, 1974 the family moved to Mirror, Alberta and began a mixed farming operation with Susan's parents. This included raising 2000 broiler chickens to supply eggs to the Co-op Hatchery in Calgary. In July, 1975 a son, Ronald arrived and made the family complete. After the sudden passing of Stan's father Reinhold in February, 1978, Stan moved his family to a farm southwest of Hanna and joined his brother Wes in running the family farm there. In August, 1987 the family moved to a quarter (which was later subdivided into an acreage) north of Stettler on Highway 56. In April, 1988 Stan accepted a caretaking position with the Stettler School District (now the Clearview School Division). In September, 1996 Stan was promoted to the position of Head Caretaker. His duties included supervising the caretaking staff and general maintenance for the Stettler School Complex. He held this position until December 5, 2003 when he was diagnosed with cancer. In June, 2004 he and Susan sold their acreage and moved into Stettler.
Stan was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. His family was his whole world and he absolutely adored his grandchildren. Stan had a great love of the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed the camping, fishing and quad trips out to the mountains with family and friends. While on the acreage, Stan enjoyed raising llamas and sheep. Other hobbies included collecting model cars, listening to music, anything to do with computers and electronics -such as building a computer from scratch, flying airplanes and driving trains on the computer, surfing the net, etc. Stan was instrumental in getting the Stettler Computer Club started in September 1993, and was a member right up until his passing. Stan had a great sense of humour and was a big tease -as many of his co-workers and family will attest to.
Stan is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Susan; a daughter, Pam (Troy) Devison of Edmonton; a son, Ron Rosin and his fiancé, Tracy Lee, both of Perth, Australia; grandsons; Brandon and Brett Devison of Edmonton; granddaughter Remi Rosin of Perth, Australia; his brother Wes (Vivian) Rosin of Hanna; his sister Cindy (Gordon) Bartman of Stettler; an uncle Helmut (Mildred) Werner of Craigmyle; nephews Kyle Rosin of Hanna, Blair Bartman of Edmonton, Brett Bartman of Stettler; nieces Janean Rosin of Saskatoon, Christie and Heather Rosin of Calgary, other relatives and many wonderful friends and acquaintances. Stan was predeceased by his father and mother; Reinhold and Erna Rosin, grandparents; Chris and Otillia Werner, Fred and Magdalena Rosin and parents-in-law; Ronald and Peggy Purkis.
Stan will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
