Layout of The Olds College Feedlot

The Olds College feedlot area consists of four 80head pens, two 100 head pens, 100 head in Steer a Year, and a 80 head Grow Safe research pen. The pens are steel construction with windbreaks and cement feed bunks.
Olds College Beef Center Facilities
Behind the Beef Center are steel sorting pens coming into the beef center. In the Beef Center is a modern handling system with a hydraulic squeeze and 2 manual squeezes to accommodate students for labs. We also have a chute side computer used to track all animal treatments. This computer is connected to an RFID tag reader and the electronic scale for automatic data entry.

Olds College is always looking for ways to work with researchers or industry partners to utilize technology and/or new ideas in its feedlot operation. We currently have several partnerships in progress testing technology in our feedlot.
