Student Health Insurance
All students are responsible for providing their own health care insurance and covering their own medical costs including ambulance transportation except when students suffer from an injury as defined by WCB. Students should have their own provincial health care insurance card and keep it with them at all times.
1. Students Provincial Health Care Insurance
- Out of province students should inform their provincial health care insurer that they are now attending Olds College for the specific time you will be here. Your provincial health insurer may require proof of registration. If they do, you should take the form to Student Services in DMP.
- Phone Alberta Health Care to obtain provincial health care coverage if you do not have any provincial health care insurance.

2. Olds College Students Association Insurance (OCSA)
- All students are required to have this insurance plan or may remain on their parent’s insurance plan if proof of coverage is shown to the OCSA insurance agent.
- This insurance is in addition to provincial health care insurance and does not replace provincial health care insurance.

3. Workers’ Compensation Board Insurance (WCB) Insurance
- All Olds College Students who receive a certificate, diploma or degree are covered by Alberta WCB Insurance for class-related injury.
- Students and employees are required to complete a WCB form every time they consult a physician or a chiropractor for any work-related injury or illness.
- Student WCB forms are submitted to the Coordinator of Student Health Services.
- The Coordinator of Student Health Services forwards WCB reports for student injuries.
- Olds College students who do work experience outside Alberta may not be covered by Alberta WCB if it is not recognized by the outside province or country.
4. International Students
- Students attending Olds College from another country as part of an international department for less than 12 months will have external international health insurance.
- International Students in Alberta for over one year can apply for Alberta Health Care.
- International Students at Olds College independently should ensure they have adequate health care insurance.
