Library Instruction
The library is happy to offer instruction to classes. The Library Catalogue, Journal Databases, and the Internet are all excellent sources for research if used effectively. We encourage all staff to book instruction sessions for their classes for at least one of the following each year. Technology and information access is ever changing. Instructors using this service have seen a noticeable increase in the quality of student work.
Research Strategy
(a minimum of one hour, ideally two hours)
Students learn how to determine the nature and extent of their information needs, how to access appropriate information to meet those needs using the Library Catalogue and Databases, and how to critically evaluate information and sources gathered. They will also understand they have a personal responsibility related to the use of information. Instructors are encouraged to send a class assignment with the students because this makes the instruction relevant to their studies.
Internet Searching
(one hour)
Students learn about the different types of search engines available and to get applicable and useful information. They are also taught the importance of evaluating the information they find, as well as, methods for doing this.
