Olds College Board Advocacy Breakfast, Rocky Mountain House
Rocky Mountain House MLA Ty Lund
Local and regional media attended the Olds College Board Advocacy breakfast in Rocky Mountain House on Friday, May 1.
Rocky Mountain House MLA Ty Lund, Mayor Jim Bague and Clearwater County Reeve Pat Alexander joined Olds College President Dr. H. J. (Tom) Thompson and Bill Quinney, Chair of the Olds College Board of Governors, for a presentation.
2009 marks the official designation of all Olds College alumni, many of which are in the greater Rocky Mountain House area, as the College's official Partner of the Year. With the Oil and Gas and Agriculture industries being prime economic drivers of the region, many employed in those fields have chosen Olds College as the best choice for a relevant education. President Thompson expressed appreciation to local alumni for those choices.
He also spoke to the College's growing ability to leverage technology to supply post-secondary education to rural areas, citing recent successes with the Community Learning Campus (CLC) as evidence of what the future can hold for the area. Using SuperNet technology, the CLC currently connects with Community Engagement sites in Delburne, Cremona, Bowden and Sundre, allowing access to learning and business applications. Future sites are in the planning stages, with one slated for nearby Sylvan Lake.
