HACCP Pilot Project
AAFRD Regulatory Services Division (RSD) is in the process of implementing updated Meat Facility Standards for provincial slaughter and meat processing facilities. The Food Safety Division (FSD) has launched the voluntary Alberta HACCP Advantage (AHA) on behalf of the provincial meat industry. The Olds College Meat Lab will serve as a demonstration site for industry and government to showcase the implemented food safety prerequisite programs and HACCP plans. Specific steps will include:
- Develop a prerequisite program for the Olds College Meat Facility.
- Develop HACCP plans for processes and products manufactured at Olds College Meat Lab.
- Facilitate the development of modules to assist provincial meat plants to develop food safety programs.
- Olds College facility to be used as the provincial HACCP demonstration site.
In January 2008, Olds College meat facility was audited by the Canadian General Standards Board and received certification under the Alberta HACCP Advantage (AHA!) program, to the level of Good Manufacturing Practices.
