This is a 3 credit course

This 4-day course is designed to provide participants the opportunity to obtain practical knowledge and acquire hands-on skills necessary to successfully breed and manage your breeding horses for maximum efficiency.

The learning activities may be demonstration or hands-on. This course will be beneficial to

  • the new horse breeder,
  • those who are looking for new ideas to update and improve their breeding practices,
  • and those who wish to utilize artificial insemination in their breeding program.
  • The program covers:
  • Stallion nutrition, and handling.
  • Semen collection,evaluation,and handling fresh chilled semen for transportation will be covered.
  • Hands-on mare insemination.
  • Mare nutrition, teasing,

Mare and stallion handling will be covered as well as skills needed for transported semen.

Note: The Alberta Veterinary Medical Association has approved this 3 credit course for 21 credits of their scientific Continuing Education.
