Bosnian Toe-up Colorwork Socks

Learn how to work with multiple colors in a row without tangling the yarns or having long strands using traditional Balkan and Andean techniques. Make a Bosnian toe-up sock that has a rectangular toe, knitted flat, but without purls! Examine several hand-knit Bosnian slipper socks.  Intermediate. You need to know how to knit with double-pointed needles, and have made at least 1 pair of socks or 1 Christmas stocking.

Eastern Thrummed Mittens

Learn five handy techniques for creating eastern mittens which start at the fingertips with an Eastern or Turkish toe cast. Both mitts are knit at the same time using magic loop and thrummed for warmth and comfort.  The thumbs are created tip down using Emily O’s cast on, on double pointed needles.

Yarns From Our Animal Friends

Learn about the delights produced by sheep, with a breed-specific array of different types of yarns.  Discover the varied offerings of other animals, including mohair and cashmere goats, alpacas, and others. Play with a sample pack of yarns as you consider the basic qualities of the fibres that have been used to prepare them and what textiles they make best.  Experiment with yarns to discover which fibres drape well, which can be brushed to produce a halo and which are lightweight but extremely warm. Shibori in a Jar

Discover the ancient Japanese technique of sewn, folded, or clamped resists to dye fabric using Mason canning jars and an easy take-home recipe to repeat your successes. Results are often magical and you will have 24 half-yard pieces of hand-dyed fabric as your prize. You should have simple needle and thread sewing skills as you will be sewing a simple running stitch and gathering the thread tightly to create a resist in the fabric.  Supply list for this workshop has been updated.

Spinning -Just For Fun

Beginner Weaving

Learn how to measure and make a warp, thread a loom and weave a sampler of structures. Choose yarns suitable for weaving, read a pattern, and calculate the amount of yarn required for different projects and types of fabric.  Plan and weave a project. Looms will be provided if needed.
