Professional Residential Landscape Design - Levels I and II - Fall 2012 / Winter 2013

Register in this newly developed series of courses if you are a horticulture professional, landscaper, builder, architect, interior designer, are working in related fields or are a knowledgeable amateur gardener wanting to expand your skills.

This comprehensive, part-time program is offered in-class, on-site and in the drafting studio and will introduce you to all aspects of Landscape Design. Register today to expand your skills and enhance your services.

Level I - 45 hrs

Start at the beginning with the history of gardens and land use and learn the basics of drafting in the design studio. Learn how to measure the site, collect the data required and draft measured results onto the base plan. Explore design concepts, principles and elements, styles and other design choices. Learn how to apply the
principles of sustainable landscaping in your plan.

Sat-Sun: Oct 20/21, Nov 3/4 & Nov 17/18, 2012

8:00 am-5:00 pm each day

Level II - 39 Hrs
Build on what you learned in Level I. Meet with the “client” and review the course project. Using a transit and tripod learn the basics of surveying. Interpret the data collected and create a grading plan, plan for water collection and movement,
swales and hard landscape features. Back in the studio work on presentation graphics, the planting design and plan for lighting, furniture and features. Learn to estimate the costs and develop a design budget.

You may be able to work on one of your own projects in this class.

Prerequisite for Level II: Level I or drafting experience and some design experience.
