Funky Birds Garden Sculpture

Instructor: Rita Wildschut

Let loose and sculpt using fabric, wire and an exterior fabric hardener to create fun and funky birds who won’t be flying south any time soon! Spend the day with Rita Wildschut as she leads you through the creation of this whimsical addition to your garden or pond environment. Back by popular demand, this workshop is a delightful way to explore the creativity you didn’t know you had.

Encaustic Beeswax Painting for Beginners

Instructor: Lorna Kemp

Encaustic is an artistic hot wax painting process used in ancient times and is now enjoying a revival in the past fifteen years, especially in Europe. Come and work with the most exciting, brilliant, vibrant colours you will ever see in any paint. Working with an encaustic iron, electric stylus, heat gun, brushes, found objects and various scratching-in tools, you will work on a variety of papers and surfaces. Encaustic Artist, Lorna Kemp, will guide you through learning many amazing techniques unique to this medium so you can choose your favorites and apply them to a masterpiece project. This is a beginner-level course geared to a first-time encaustic artist’s learning.

Explore even more encaustic painting techniques with Lorna and prepare to be amazed!

This full-day workshop will review the beginner techniques and styles but will enlighten you with even more! Spend the day watching, learning, doing, and creating as you work with an encaustic iron, electric stylus, heat gun, brushes, found objects and various scratching-in tools on different surfaces. Come away with a variety of samples of your own work applying each technique learned and later you will work on a canvas to create one amazing piece of art – your masterpiece! The beginner class is not a prerequisite to this course. No experience necessary.

Bark Carving Creations: Celtic Love Spoon

Instructor: Linda Shantz

Learn the basics of wood carving, tool handling and sanding (to smooth and shape) while creating a traditional Celtic Love Spoon in this half-day workshop. In the early years, love spoon carving was a popular pastime. At some stage, the ritual of carving a spoon evolved into a pre-courtship custom. The more elaborate the design, the more intense the carvers’ feelings were considered to be. And so it is from these humble beginnings that the custom love spoon began. Nowadays, love spoons are given to celebrate special occasions. This project is ideal for the beginner who loves to create and work with their hands.

Bark Carving Creations: Lighthouse

Learn the basics of wood carving and tool handling while creating your very own detailed, carved lighthouse. Let your imagination to go wild in this full-day carving workshop as carving artist, Linda Shantz, guides you through the many techniques and styles you can use to make this project your very own masterpiece. Twig Creations I: Build a Rock Obelisk Plant Stand

Instructor: Tim Shaw

Get ready to create, impress and have fun in this half-day workshop where you will transform a variety of twigs and a lovely slab of slate into a beautiful and useful garden, deck, or patio accessory. This attractive project is dual purpose as you can have it outside supporting a viney plant in your garden, or use it as a plant stand decorating your patio, deck or home.

Twig Creations II: Build a Ranch Style Planter

Instructor: Tim Shaw

In this half-day workshop you will construct a Ranch Style Planter using only natural materials and a little bit of your own elbow grease. This project allows you to be creative while instructor, Tim Shaw, guides you through the assembly and construction of one of his original designs. This unique planter can be used to accent your beautiful garden or walkway and will support a 36” long plant box.

Beyond the Pot — Hypertufa Art in the Garden

Instructor: Carole Dobson

Tufa is a naturally-occurring, porous rock formed by precipitation of calcium. Hypertufa is a mixture of Portland cement and various aggregates, in imitation of naturally-occurring tufa and makes for lovely, textured garden art pieces. During this half-day workshop, you will create a hypertufa trough container suitable for planting alpine or succulent plants. Practice hypertufa carving techniques by creating a hypertufa wall plaque. With skills acquired in this hands-on workshop, you can move onto making spheres, sculptures, pavers, water fountains and garden ornaments.
