CWB Weld Testing
Olds College is an authorized test centre for the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB). Welders, who are not employed by a Company certified to CSA W47.1 and are not a member of a union providing testing facilities, may make arrangements to be tested on one of the dates mentioned below. On successful completion of the test, the welder will be given a letter by the Canadian Welding Bureau representative certifying them to CSA W47.1 standards.
Tests & Rates
Test 1: P1 - F4 (SMAW), 3/8" Plate = $95.00 per test plate.
Test 2: P1 - F6 (GMAW), 3/8" Plate = $110.00 per test plate.
Test 3: P1 - F6 (FCAW), 1/2" Plate = $135.00 per test plate.
Test 4: P1 - F4 (SMAW), 3/8" Plate, Check Test = $150.00
Test 5: P1 - F6 (GMAW), 3/8" Plate, Check Test = $165.00
Test 6: P1 - F6 (FCAW), 1/2" Plate, Check Test = $190.00
Booth and machine rental + consumables = $30.00 per hour.
5% GST will be added to all prices.
Rules & Regulations
1) All materials including electrodes are supplied by Olds College.
2) Electrode type and size, F4 / 7018 x 1/8" (3.2mm).
3) No grinders, files, or methods that remove deposited metal.
4) Initial all position tests are comprised of 4 positions, flat, horizontal, vertical & overhead.
5) All test coupons are pre-tacked and have a backing strip attached.
6) Test participants will be allowed 45 minutes to complete each test coupon.
7) Upon successful completion of testing a certification letter will be issued to the test participant that will be valid for a period of two years. This letter must be given to the participants employer so the employer can file for and attain the participants CWB card.
8) If a participant wishes to retest on any failed positions, the participant should discuss the matter with the CWB test representative.
Testing Dates: Testing is every Monday (in the event of a Statutory Holdiday please contact for clarificaiton).
