
Earthmoving Equipment Operation
Earthmoving Equipment Operation (EEO) is geared for those individuals who do not have time to be away from work or family for extended periods of time. The selection of EEO courses covers three levels which can be taken consecutively or over a period of time to suit the learner's schedule.
- L1: Introduction to Earthmoving and Equipment Operation Safety
(3 weeks) - L2: Earthmoving Fundamentals on the Jobsite
(4 weeks) - L3: Earthmoving Operational Techniques
(3 weeks)
The technical training in Levels Two and Three provide extensive hands-on experience. The three levels provide training on selected equipment which could include: loader, excavator, grader, dozer, pack, or other equipment.
Upon successful completion of the three-level Earthmoving Operations program, you will be prepared to seek employment in the industry with a good foundation in a wide variety of industry related worksite skills associated with heavy equipment operation as well as the technical and hands-on training of heavy construction equipment.
Earthmoving Equipment Operation Level One (3 weeks)
Introduction to Earthmoving and Equipment Operation Safety
Develop safety skills by completing industry standard safety certificate courses and apply health, safety and environmental procedures and practices based on applicable legislated rules and regulations. This 3 week course will focus on the personal protective equipment, guidelines, responsibilities, and obligations of working with heavy equipment.
You will be introduced to selected earthmoving and compacting equipment and their uses as well as the skills and qualities that are needed to be a successful operator. Incorporating industry and employer expectations, the course outlines professional characteristics, career opportunities, operator responsibilities, and the expected workplace fundamentals associated with heavy equipment operation including preventative maintenance.

Earthmoving Equipment Operation Level Two (4 weeks)
Earthmoving Fundamentals on the Jobsite
Pre-requisite: Earthmoving Equipment Operation Level One
You will demonstrate the safe operation and conduct relating to a jobsite utilizing a student designed jobsite plan based upon instructor criteria. You will have a basic understanding of soil structure and value, concepts of elevations and grading; the use and interpretation of grade stakes, and the basic process of grading construction sites. You will employ the tools and instruments used for setting grades and reading site plans to ensure that earthmoving work meets specification as well as utilizing formulas and methods used to compute the cut and fill requirements of a job and how to read site plans to obtain cut and fill information. Safety issues that are of concern for operators such as underground utilities and property lines are also identified in this course.
- General procedures for loading, securing, and transporting heavy equipment and pertinent legislation.
- Safe rigging and lifting procedures.
- Wellsite construction and production practices to reclamation requirements.

Earthmoving Operational Techniques
Prerequisite: Level Two - Earthmoving Fundamentals on the Jobsite
You will further develop and demonstrate the industry accepted practices and procedures of safe operation, preventative maintenance, basic movements and general principles of operation of selected earthmoving equipment and its attachments. You will be exposed to road building and well site industry practices through hands-on practical experience on selected pieces of equipment.
