Exercise Rider and Jockey Training

This dynamic and interactive program will take your horsemanship to the next level if you are interested in a career in the racing industry. We provide hands on learning using race horses as your text books. You will be taught to prepare and manage yourself as an entrepreneur with race horses as your business. The course uses standardized racing industry equipment, procedures, and on-site practical experience to give you the additional riding skills and knowledge you require to become a certified Exercise Rider in 15 weeks.

Farrier Science

Olds College Farrier Science certificate program is recognized as providing the finest farrier programming in North America. The program covers trimming, forging and fitting handmade shoes combined with horse anatomy, physiology, welding, record keeping, and business management. Students will learn to recognize and deal with hoof and gait problems by practicing traditional and modern approaches to forging custom shoes.

Race Horse Groom

The relationship between the horse and groom is by far the closest in the industry because grooms provide the daily care and attention to these prized equine athletes. Keeping their charges both physically and mentally happy provides unlimited job satisfaction. During this practical hands-on 15 week program (includes a 3 week practicum) you will learn all of the skills you need to provide intensive professional care for both flat and harness racing. Courses in the program include bandaging techniques, stable management for the flat race track and the harness race track, understanding nutrition, conditioning, veterinary techniques, hoof care, harnessing and race preparation.
