Green Certificate Trainee events

Are you a Green Certificate trainee interested in a program offered at Olds College? We offer unique events designed to give you additional information about the College through a guided campus tour and program session, while learning from our instructors and gaining skills for your Green Certificate program.

  

Young Farm Worker Safety Training Workshop | Monday April 29, 2019

Date: April 29th, 2019 from 8:30 am - 4:00pm. 
Location: The workshop is at Olds College in Duncan Marshall Place for registration and the first sessions. (You will be sent a map.)
Cost: The workshop fee is $45.00 per person. If you are registered with the Green Certificate Program your workshop fees are covered by the program. 

Here we go again - for the 14th year! We are excited to bring you this year's edition of the Young Farm Workers Safety Training Workshop. WWe cover a variety of farm safety topics that could include THINK IT THRU, Hazard Assessment, Livestock Safety, Bin Safety, Power Line Safety, Equine First Aid, Fire Safety, Crop Production Safety, Fire Extinguisher Safety Training, etc. You will also be involved in a recruitment presentation to explore educational opportunities at our College. This Safety Training Workshop can qualify you for 1 High School Credit for AGR2950.

Session Information

  

Students Information:

  • Your morning sessions are all set for you - just choose the "Student Stream" when you are registering. The morning is chock-full of "Think it Thru", Confined Spaces Safety, Large Machinery Safety, Grain Handling Safety, Power Line Safety and quick mental check up!

  • In the afternoon you will need to choose which session you would like to attend. Info is below.

Adults Information:  You can make a choice of:

  • Attending the morning "Adult Stream" which is "Rooted in Strength: Knowing what you can control" morning session with Cynthia Beck, a suicide intervention responder from Saskatchewan. More information is available here. Then you can rejoin your student or family for the afternoon sessions.

  • Attending the morning "Student Stream" with your student or family. In the afternoon you will need to choose which session you would like to attend. Info is below.

Afternoon Select-A-Session

  • Equine First Aid - For equine green certificate students and students working with horses. Covers several aspects of safety for you and your horse.

  • Livestock Management - This session covers two topics: Animal Rights and Safety (for you and them) and an Olds Auction Mart Tour with demonstrations and young worker orientation information.

  • Fire Extinguisher Certification - You will be trained and receive your Fire Extinguisher Certification and then attend a session on Farm Safety on Rural Roads.

Green Certificate Equine Reproduction Workshop | April 11, 2019

Date: April 11th, 2019 from 9:00am - 4:00pm.

Registration will open on March 21st at 10am. Registration numbers will be limited to the first 20 students, so please register promptly.

You will have campus visit and presentation designed to help you explore educational opportunities and gain experience needed for your Equine Green Certificate program. Dr. Marion Anderson, Chair of the Equine Science program, will be presenting “Describe and Understand the Reproductive Cycle”, "Distinguish Between Features of a Horse's Reproductive Cycle", “Understanding Different Breeding Technologies" and "Compare Breeding Methods".


Green Certificate Large Animal Anatomy Workshop | May 3, 2019

Date: May 3rd, 2019 from 8:45am - 2:00pm.

Registration will open on April 11th at 10am. Registration numbers will be limited to the first 20 students, so please register promptly.

You will have a campus visit and presentation designed to help you explore educational opportunities and gain experience needed for your Green Certificate program. Neil French will be presenting “Cattle Physiology and Anatomy”.
