
Glossary of Terms
- Entrance Scholarships
- Selected primarily on the basis of academic standing in high school.
- Entrance Bursaries
- Selected primarily on the basis of financial need.
- Scholarships
- Selected primarily on the basis of academic proficiency, which is assessed according to the student’s cumulative GPA as of December 31.
- Bursaries
- Selected primarily on the basis of financial need.
- Prize/Award
- An award given in recognition of some specific outstanding accomplishment or contribution. Prizes may be in the form of gifts, plaques, subscriptions or money.
- Eligibility
- The requirements that qualify a student to be chosen as a recipient.
- Criteria
- The standards on which a judgment or decision may be based.
- Alberta Resident
- You have lived in Alberta for the past 12 consecutive months prior to starting studies and you were not a full-time post-secondary or upgrading student during those same months.
- Canadian Citizen
- A person who was born in Canada or who has been granted Canadian citizenship. Citizenship in Canada can be obtained by a permanent resident who lives in Canada for three out of four years before applying for citizenship and be able to speak fluently in either English or French.
- Landed Immigrant
- A former official classification for a person who has been admitted to Canada as a non-citizen-permanent resident. The current official classification for such a person is simply permanent resident. Nevertheless, the term "Landed Immigrant" was in use for so long, that it has become part of Canadian vocabulary, and even still appears on some government related forms and publications.
