
Awards for New Students
This year Olds College will give out over $200,000 in Entrance Awards!
- These awards have to be applied for using our Entrance Award On-Line Application Form
- You cannot apply until you are admitted to Olds College. When you are admitted you will receive correspondence which will include your Olds College Student Identification Number.
- The deadline to apply for these awards is Monday, August 15th, 2011.
2011 Entrance Award Criteria
- You must be entering an eligible program (see below),
- You must be an admitted student from Central Alberta
(have a current permanent address in Central Alberta or have graduated from a Central Alberta high school),
OR
- You must be entering into the Business Administration program,
OR
- You must receive an Athletic Entrance Award based upon working with an Olds College coach.
Eligible Central Alberta Communities
Additional Criteria
- Students must be admitted to Olds College and apply for the award prior to midnight on August 15, 2011.
- Students must enroll as a first year full time student at Olds College Campus, Olds College Calgary Campus or an eligible on-line program for Fall 2011.
- A student must maintain a 60% or higher course load per semester to be considered "full-time enrollment" for an undergraduate student at Olds College.
- The following programs are NOT eligible for Entrance Awards:
- TVP
- Academic Upgrading
- Apprentice programs
- Animal Health Technology (on-campus or on-line)
- Farrier Science
- Meat Processing
- Continuing Education classes.
- Western Recreational Rider
- Students are only eligible for more than one entrance award if the Olds College Director of Health and Wellness awards an Athletic Entrance Award.
- All Entrance Awards are divided so that the student receives two equal allotments at the end of September and the end of January providing they meet all other award criteria contained here.
- If the student withdraws from their program prior to the successful completion of a semester the award is forfeited and will be withdrawn from the student account.
- Awards may not be deferred from one year to the next.
- Students must maintain a minimum 2.00 cumulative G.P.A. at Olds College to keep awards between fall and winter semesters.
- Students may make an appeal to the College Awards Committee regarding the loss of an award or any of the award decisions.
- Children of Olds College employees/faculty members, who are receiving tuition waivers from Olds College, are not eligible for Entrance Awards.
- Student enrolling in the First Year MacEwan Bachelor of Science program at Olds College are eligible for an annual award of $1,000 if they live in residence and meet all the other criteria.
In addition to all regular Entrance Award policy, Students who receive an Athletic Entrance Award must also meet the following requirements.
- Athletic Entrance Awards may be stacked with other Entrance Awards but no total entrance award shall exceed $2,000. This excludes student who are eligible for the Jimmie Condon Scholarship. Multi-sport athletes may only receive one entrance award.
- Each Olds College athletic team has a limited budget to award as Athletic Entrance Awards. It is up to each team’s coach to allocate available award dollars.
- In order to receive an award, students must be in good standing with their team, coach and the Department of Health and Wellness. Failure to do so can result in warnings and possibly the withdrawal of the award. This means the award will be forfeited and the amount withdrawn from the students’ account.
- Any award appeals will be handled by the Director of Health and Wellness.
