Location:      Olds, Alberta

Olds College, located in Olds, Alberta, seeks a Counsellor to join our team in providing direct counselling services to students. This position may be up to three days per week and may include some evenings. The College Counsellor provides confidential counselling and support to individuals and groups of students with mental health and substance abuse issues with the goal of assisting student in their personal well-being and academic success. This includes, but is not limited to, counselling in the areas of anxiety, depression, relationships, trauma, developmental disabilities, and addictions. The Counsellor provides short term, on-site counselling services for students attending the campus in Olds and makes referrals to community resources or other options for those requiring more in-depth or longer care.

The suitable candidate must also be willing to develop and provide student based groups, campus-wide education on mental health and substance abuse issues and is responsible for maintaining a network of relationships with other Olds College departments, staff and faculty. (S)he is also responsible for maintaining a network of relationships with agencies, organizations and individuals outside Olds College which/who could assist with the delivery of services or inform the Counsellor of current issues and trends within the field.

We are seeking team players who have the skills and passion to work with students to help them attain personal and academic goals. The ability to work with a team of diverse counselling professionals and members of the student health care team is required. A positive outlook, discretion, integrity, confidentiality and the ability to act in a professional and proactive manner applicable to the situation are required. Strong coaching, motivational and collaboration skills and a flexible approach to work are also essential.  The incumbent must possess a minimum of a Graduate degree in Psychology or Clinical Social Work or equivalent with 2 years’ experience working with adults with mental health and substance abuse issues. Incumbent must be registered with the College of Alberta of Psychologists, Alberta College of Social Workers or Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association. Provisional status will be considered.
