The term of employment will be from September 3 to November 30, 2019. The number of hours per week will depend on weather conditions but may range from 20 to 50 hours.

Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) has a temporary opening for a Service Worker I, Crops to participate in a number of applied research projects. The term of employment will be from September 3 to November 30, 2019. The number of hours per week will depend on weather conditions but may range from 20 to 50 hours.     

The successful candidate will be part of a team involved with a diversity of industry led agriculture crop research projects. These include variety trials and crop input efficacy trials. Duties for this position include equipment operation (truck, tractor, combine, tiller, mower), plot maintenance and management, crop evaluations, pest and disease evaluations, soil fertility work, data management, and sample handling.     

Desired Qualifications:    

• Experience/knowledge with growing and evaluating agriculture/horticulture crops;    

• Farm equipment operation;    

• Computer and Microsoft Office skills;    

• Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail.    

This position requires long days and weekend work at key periods in the research season. The successful candidate must be physically fit, be able to work outdoors for extended periods in all weather conditions and be able to work the full employment term. You will be a self-motivated team-player and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision. WHMIS certification training will be provided. A class 5 driver’s license is required for this role.  

Temporary employees shall be paid, in addition to their regular rate of pay, fourteen percent (14%} of their earnings in lieu of vacation and named statutory holidays.
