The Conference Services Department has an opportunity for a Conference Services Summer Student to perform a hospitality role in providing customer service to our clients. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with a diverse range of clients and industry partners. The anticipated term of employment is from May 1, 2019 to August 31, 2019.

Office hours vary throughout the conference season depending upon the number of clients in a given week. Shifts can begin as early as 07:00 AM or end as late as 11:00 PM. This is a full-time position and will average at 35-40 hours per week. Saturday shifts are common for the duration of the summer.

The Summer Student will be responsible for providing superior customer service to College visitors and students in all aspects of the conference services operation. Duties will include:

  • Answering telephones
  • Directing inquiries
  • Greeting conference groups
  • Facility setups
  • Audio and visual equipment setup
  • Document preparation
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Providing professional check in and check out services
  • Clerical support to the Conference Services department

The successful candidate will be a secondary or post-secondary student prior to and/or immediately following their work period. The candidate will be are self-motivated, independent and detail-oriented. Exceptional customer service skills coupled with a demonstrated problem solving ability is essential. The candidate should be skilled using a computer, and have experience in programs such as Microsoft Office, and the Google Suite. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in the hospitality or tourism industry.

Temporary employees shall be paid in addition to their regular rate of pay, fourteen percent (14%) of their earnings in lieu of vacation and named statutory holidays.
