The Olds College Centre for Innovation is seeking two students for an Agricultural Research Assistant summer position. The anticipated term of employment extends from April 15 to September 15, with the possibility of extending employment through the harvest season. This is a full-time temporary position. The successful candidates will work closely with scientists and other research staff in ongoing research projects.

The Olds College Centre for Innovation is seeking two students for an Agricultural Research Assistant summer position. The anticipated term of employment extends from April 15 to September 15, with the possibility of extending employment through the harvest season. This is a full-time temporary position. The successful candidates will work closely with scientists and other research staff in ongoing research projects.

This position will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of agricultural and horticultural research projects including:

  • plot management: planting, weeding, spraying, and harvesting
  • crop monitoring and evaluation
  • data collection and management
  • equipment operation: tractors, mowers, tillers and hand tools
  • miscellaneous departmental duties

The successful candidate should be a secondary or post-secondary student. Due to the physically demanding nature of some components of this position, the successful candidates must be physically fit and able to work outdoors for extended periods. They will be a self-motivated team player and possess the ability to work with minimal supervision. The incumbents must provide and wear CSA approved footwear, and successfully complete WHMIS certification training provided by the college. A post-secondary education in a related field and relevant work experience would be an asset. A valid driver’s license is required.

Temporary employees shall be paid in addition to their regular rate of pay, fourteen percent (14%) of their earnings in lieu of vacation and named statutory holidays.
