The position will assist the TAC research team with several research projects that include test interpretation, and assisting with feed and lab trials. The anticipated term of employment is from May 01, 2019 to August 30, 2019.  

Livestock Production Research Assistant

The Olds College Centre for Innovation and the Technology Access Centre for Livestock production has one opportunity available for a Student Research Assistant. The position will assist the TAC research team with several research projects that include test interpretation, and assisting with feed and lab trials. The anticipated term of employment is from May 01, 2019 to August 30, 2019.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Feeding livestock
  • Monitoring and data collection
  • Lifting feed, and seed preparation
  • Livestock tissue and hair sample collection
  • Monitoring pasture trials
  • Data entry
  • Moving cattle

The successful candidate must be a secondary or post-secondary student prior to and/or immediately following their work period. The candidate will be able to work independently and have strong attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks. Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in an Agriculture Management or Animal Health Technician program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a keen interest in learning more about livestock research and genetic analysis. In addition, the candidate must provide and wear CSA approved safety footwear and successfully complete WHMIS certification training.

Temporary employees shall be paid in addition to their regular rate of pay, fourteen percent (14%) of their earnings in lieu of vacation and named statutory holidays.
