Previous to work in post-secondary, Desmond has worked in the health sector in the areas of business and data analysis, human resources, and workforce planning. He has been the General Manager and Head Coach of a Junior AAA baseball team since 2010 which has represented Alberta on a national stage in eight of those years. In 2019 he received Baseball Alberta’s Wally A. Footz award for builder of the year. He presently sits on the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors.

Cari-Ann is an Instructor in the Veterinary Medical Receptionist and Veterinary Technician Assistant program. She comes with many years of experience as an RVT working in a mixed animal veterinary practice. The student hands on learning and the class atmosphere is what she enjoys most here at Olds College. Cari-Ann currently resides east of Olds where she continues to exercise her passion for animal health on her family farm.

Dr. Ken Fry, Entomology Instructor in the School of Life Sciences & Business at Olds College, has been involved in insect pest management research, teaching, and extension for over 25 years. His research is focused on biological control of insect pests and integrated pest management. Current research projects include the introduction of a parasitic wasp to manage the lily beetle, surveillance of invasive species affecting the urban forest, and evaluating the effects of Aphodiine beetles on turfgrass. Ken’s “happy place” is in the Olds College Insect Collection where he serves as curator for 75,000 specimens. Ken is co-author, with Doug Macaulay and Don Williamson of “Garden Bugs of Alberta” and a contributing author to “Organic Farming on the Prairies”.

Dr. Laureen Hall is an Instructor in the Animal Health Technology Program. Prior to joining Olds College she owned and operated a small animal veterinary clinic, had worked in a mixed animal practice and provided locum services. She grew up in the Olds area and was active in the local 4-H clubs. Passionate for life long learning she continues to enhance her knowledge through continuing education opportunities and is excited to share what she learns and her experience with students.

Jasons specialty is Turfgrass Science and Golf Course Management. A former superintendent, holding diplomas in Agriculture, Business, Bachelor of Applied Science, and Masters in Turfgrass Science. He is Executive Director of the Alberta Turfgrass Research Foundation, advisor to the Prairie Turfgrass Research Center, and past president of the Western Canada Turf association.

Dr. Kelsey Shacker is an Instructor in the Animal Health Technology Program. Prior to joining Olds College she worked in a mixed animal practice, and focused on small animal and equine medicine, as well as animal chiropractics. Dr. Kelsey is passionate about working with students and seeing them progress in their skills and confidence within the large and small animal medical scopes of practice.

In addition to Kurt's academic credentials, he has interests in leadership, management, human resources, education and training, and project management. Kurt has an extensive background in working and managing in retail, purchasing, and supply chain and logistics. Kurt came to Olds College in 2017 and found that he enjoyed the culture and the atmosphere at Olds College. Hands-on applied learning, often with industry partners, and the support of the community has been a great fit for him. He is a hockey fan, plays the guitar, and enjoy spending time with his family.
