EDUCATION FOR EMPLOYMENT (EFE)-ANDEAN REGION

EFE-BOLIVIA

Education for Employment Andean Region – Portachuelo, Bolivia

Olds College is developing and implementing Competency Based Education Training (CBET) curriculum focused on Agriculture with Instituto Agropecuario Portachelo (TAP), in the area of Santa Cruz. We are focusing on a comprehensive improvement in TAP’s Vocational Degree Program in Agriculture by building training, pedagogical and entrepreneurial capacity, and strengthening private sector relationships. While the focus is on improvement of TAP’s Vocational Degree Program in Agriculture and overall agricultural practices we are keen to increase employment opportunities for youth and women and meet the needs of agri-businesses, government and other agricultural stakeholders in and around Portachelo, always promoting environmental sustainable practices. Funding for this project is from the Department of Foreign Affairs Trade and Development through Colleges and Institutes Canada ($436,600).

 

EFE-PERU

Education for Employment Andean Region – Rioja, Peru

Olds College is partner with Norquest College on this project aimed at developing and implementing Competency Based Education Training (CBET) curriculum at Rioja IESTP, while building pedagogical and entrepreneurial capacity, and strengthening private sector relationships. The focus of this partnership is on the Food Industry Professional Degree Program which will in turn rise employment opportunities for youth and women and meet the necessities of agri-businesses, government and other food industry participants in and around Rioja, San Martin. Funding for this project is from the Department of Foreign Affairs Trade and Development through Colleges and Institutes Canada ($325,000).

International Research and Training Projects

Olds College has an extended history of involvement in international applied research and development projects. Examples of such projects include:

  • Dominican Republic: curriculum development in Turf Grass Management and GIS, the Dominican Republic Coffee Project, and bioremediation of mine tailings at the Rosario Mines for Barrick Gold
  • Barbados: Agricultural Waste Management
  • St Lucia: Environmental Management of Pig Manure
  • Mexico:  Lead Mine Remediation
  • China:  Organic fertilizer production from intensive dairy and poultry operations in  Mianyang, Sichuan and municipal and agricultural waste management in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province
  • Bangladesh: Train the Trainer Agriculture Program
  • Kazakhstan:  Training in Bioremediation of Petroleum Contaminated Environments
  • Jordan: Jordan Valley Integrated Waste Management Project
  • Indonesia: Training in Commercial Composting of Agricultural and Municipal Wastes
  • Korea: Korean Agricultural Workers Program
  • Ukraine: Curriculum development training
