Apprenticeship Programs

Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job experience combined with technical training.  Earn-while-you-learn on the way to certification as a journeyman in a recognized trade.  To join an apprenticeship program you are required to have an employer who is willing to employ you as an apprentice and is able to provide you with supervision and training.  Further details are available through the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training website.  You will find an easy step by step guide with necessary application forms.

Apprenticeships are usually two or four years in durations.  Olds College provides the technical training for five different trades.  Each year you will attend Olds College for eight weeks.  During this time apprentices are indentured (under contract) to an employer who agrees to allow the apprentice to attend in-school training, and also provide working trade experience throughout the rest of the year.  Some employers will cover expenses but this can vary.
