Bee Health – Training geared to veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, and beekeepers.

 Course Objectives:

  • To prepare Vets, Vet Techs and Beekeepers for the new Health Canada regulations for prescribing and distribution antimicrobials (antibiotics).

  • To familiarize participants with Alberta’s honey bee industry, honey bee biology, basic beekeeping practices and the most important honey bee diseases in Canada. Emphasis will be on etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy and prevention.


Participants are expected to obtain a basic knowledge about:

  • Bee biology,

  • Beekeeping and,

  • The most important diseases and treatment of honey bees in Canada.

This will enable all participants to further learn independently about complex issues impacting honey bee health in Canada.

This course is appropriate for both Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians and Beekeepers.

No previous knowledge about honey bees is necessary.
