Horticulture - Diploma & Certificate

“The program at Olds College tells you what you need to know and is a stepping stone to a successful horticulture career. It gave me the insight into the horticulture industry I needed to start planning my own business.”

- Tim Moreland, Graduate

“If they were not properly trained, we would not have hired as many Olds College Horticulture graduates as we have over the years. We have certainly been pleased with your students, and will continue to employ them in the future.”

- Bill Hole Hole’s Greenhouses and Gardens Ltd.

Program Description

Sustainability, water management, production horticulture, and urban agriculture are vital elements of the world in which we live. Horticulture studies explore the production and management of plants, the management of pests, landscapes, soils and water systems to achieve productive and sustainable systems.

Olds College has been offering programs within the horticulture field for over 50 years making us the experts within this field. Students have the option of studying for four years to obtain the prestigious and sought after, Bachelor of Applied Science degree, but along with this credential students will also receive a Horticulture Technologist diploma in two years, and a Horticulture Technician certificate after the first year.

The program is unique and graduates will apply their knowledge and skills in the areas of horticulture crops, landscape design, construction and maintenance. The curriculum is a blended delivery of both online learning and applied theory directed to specific case studies. The programming also includes a new field school aspect designed to supply students with practical applications and reinforce on-the-job learning skills. While achieving these goals within the field school, students will have the opportunity to earn a wage while they learn.

Start your career today with the Horticulture Technician certificate commencing in October and continue into the Horticulture Technologist diploma in July.
