“I found Olds College to be the perfect school. The instructors I had during the course of my two years were more that I could have ever hoped for. They were extremely knowledgeable, patient, helpful, and supportive. My experience with each and everyone of them was positive. I can comfortably say that I would recommend the College to anyone. I am extremely thankful to everyone for making my time there one of the best experiences of my life.”
Land Agent Graduate
Are you an excellent communicator? If so, this maybe a career suited for you. As a Land Agent you will learn how to work with industry, government and landowner stakeholders to arrive at mutually beneficial solutions to the acquisition of land for well sites, pipeline routes, highways and utility right of ways and alternate energy sites. Olds College is the leading educational institution in the training of surface land agents in Western Canada. You can play a vital part in negotiating land agreements while acting as a liaison between corporate or government agencies and the landowner.
With our hands-on training in classrooms, labs and field settings you will learn how to play a pivotal role in the acquisition of land. The Land Agent program teaches land acquisition, land administration, land and agricultural management systems, legal rights, petroleum fundamentals and specialized land and petroleum terminology. During your second year as a student, you will participate in a practicum assignment to further develop your skills.
The Olds College Land Agent program is strongly supported by CAPL (Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen), IRWA (International Right-of-Way Association), and AASLA (Alberta Association of Surface Land Agents). Olds College students are encouraged to join these associations (at a reduced fee) to interact with industry and build their professional network and secure employment after graduation.
Applicants to the Land Agent program are required to complete a Career Investigation. In this process, students are required to interview one or more licensed surface land agents to ensure they have a reasonable understanding of this unique career path and the skills required to be successful in the land agent industry.
The Career Investigation form and a contact list of licensed surface land agents can be found here:
