    October 18, 2017, Olds, Alberta: Olds College is pleased to announce Patrick Machacek has been selected as the new Vice President, Development. As the College’s senior representative responsible for fundraising and government relations, Patrick will oversee the Olds College $40 million dollar Beyond Campaign.

    Scholarships Available for Heritage Carpentry at Olds College

    The Alberta Historical Resources Foundation (AHRF) has made over $12,000 in scholarships available to Alberta residents who apply for two Heritage Carpentry courses offered at Olds College. 

    The two courses, Heritage Millwork – Mouldings and Trim, and Heritage Restoration Methods, are one week courses offered in partnership with Algonquin College, and offer specialized, accessible training that is not typically available in Western Canada. Students completing these courses will receive credit from Algonquin College as part of the Carpentry and Joinery – Heritage diploma.

    The Olds College Land Agent program will again accept first year students in the Fall of 2017.  The 2016 intake for the program was postponed due in part to the struggling economic climate in Western Canada, but the Olds College Land Agent industry advisory committee has identified the need for the program to return and produce skilled, qualified Land Agent program graduates for upcoming years.

    Collaboration and Consultation Leads to Industry Approved Heavy Equipment Operator Training

    First offered in 2008, the Olds College Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate program is a perfect example of a program developed through consultation with industry partners, to address the needs of that industry. Students spend twelve weeks in the program, plus a two week practicum, where they learn to operate machinery including graders, excavators, skid steers, dozers, and rollers. The program is designed to have students learn to get each job done efficiently without compromising safety on the site.

    Olds College has created 50 additional first-year seats in their Agricultural Management program, increasing capacity from 75 first-year students to 125 students. The new 125 first-year student capacity will be in place for the fall 2017 start of the Agricultural Management program. By fall 2018 the program will have 250 students enrolled in the diploma between first and second year.

    Olds College and Red Deer College have teamed up to present Start Up Saturdays Central Alberta, a program for students and recent grads focused on entrepreneurship and innovation.

    Launching March 11, Start Up Saturdays Central Alberta, will encourage young entrepreneurs to create a start-up company, and offer training through a series of five workshops that will help participants learn how to get their business out of the “idea” phase and into becoming an actual business.
