June 11, 2021 COVID-19 Update

On June 10, the Government of Alberta announced that we are now in stage two of their reopening plan for all Albertans, businesses and organizations. 

COVID-19 Vaccines 

The Government of Alberta’s reopening plan is centered around the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. Olds College encourages all employees and students to get vaccinated. Alberta Health Services and the Government of Canada confirms all COVID-19 vaccines available in Canada are safe and effective at preventing serious illness. To book your vaccine visit alberta.ca/covid19  Staff and students who get vaccinated before August 31, 2021 will be eligible to be entered to win some fantastic prizes. More details coming soon.

Return to Campus for fall 2021 

We are planning for a full return to campus for students and employees at the end of August in preparation for the fall semester. More details to follow in the coming weeks. 

For the remainder of the spring/summer semester classes will be delivered on-campus. Employees are encouraged to continue to work from home where possible, however employees who need to be on campus for operational effectiveness can do so with supervisor approval.    

Students and employees who are required to be on campus for learning or operational effectiveness MUST fill out the daily health assessment using the Olds College Alert App every day prior to arrival at work. 

Social gatherings and services on campus

Masks or face coverings that cover the mouth and nose are mandatory in all indoor spaces, and outside if social distancing can not be maintained. Masks are not mandatory if you are working alone in an office or cubicle. As stated in the May 13 update by the Chief Medical Officer, anyone unable to wear a mask due to a medical condition will require a medical exception letter from an authorized health professional. Anyone feeling unwell should stay home and call Health Link 811 or fill out the AHS COVID-19 Self Assessment tool Any student who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that are not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition should fill out the Student Isolation Registration form. Employees should notify their managers.

  • Indoor social gatherings are still not permitted. 

    • Lunchrooms and student lounges (including the Hive) on campus will remain closed.

    • No indoor in-person meetings are permitted. Outdoor meetings can be accommodated in adherence to the outdoor gathering restriction below. 

  • Outdoor social gatherings can have up to 20 people, physical distancing must be maintained or masks must be worn. 

  • Elements Dining Hall is open for take out dining only.   

  • CLC Fitness Centre is now open.  

  • The Learning Commons is currently closed for construction, staff are available to offer services through a virtual format. Call 403-507-7777 or email either itsupport@oldscollege.ca or library@oldscollege.ca for assistance. 

  • Capacity in the retail meat store, Olds College Brewery, Greenhouse, and the Campus Store is one third of fire capacity.    

  • The Health and Wellness Centre is open for in-person nurse and counselling appointments.
