COVID-19 Updates: FULL DETAILS

Update 2: March 11

To protect the health, safety and wellness of our College community and the greater Alberta community, Olds College Emergency Response Team has issued this travel directive in response to COVID-19  that is effective immediately. The Response Team will regularly review and update these restrictions and guidelines as required.

Business Travel Restrictions

Effective immediately, all Olds College related international travel by students and staff is not permitted until further notice.

Personal travel

Before booking or embarking on personal travel outside of Canada, all members of the College community are strongly encouraged to evaluate all associated risks, which may include the risk of becoming ill, falling under the restrictions of a foreign government, or forfeiting travellers cancellation or medical coverage.

All members of the community returning from a jurisdiction with an active travel health notice (related to COVID-19) from the Government of Canada, whether the travel was business or personal, are expected to take reasonable steps to prevent exposing our community to risk. This includes self-monitoring and, if returning from a level 3 or level 4 location, self-isolating for 14 days.

For more information of the current state of COVID-19 in Alberta, visit the Government of Alberta website.  If you have questions related to COVID-19 precautions at the College, contact Bruce Kent at bkent@oldscollege.ca

Self Isolation

Staff of the College community who have been advised to self isolate by Health Link (811) should fill out the Reporting Staff Absence form and notify their supervisor. All employees who are absent due to COVID-19 illness or advised to self-isolate will be paid for time absent while sick or otherwise self-isolated.  Employees who are instructed to self-isolate, and are not sick or symptomatic, are encouraged to work remotely, if possible.

Students should fill out the Reporting Student Absence form.

If a member of the household is required to self-isolate

Members of the College community who share a household with an individual who is self-isolating due to a reasonable risk of exposure to COVID-19 are expected to do likewise unless advised otherwise by Alberta Health Services. Persons should contact Health Link (811). College staff are expected to discuss the situation with their supervisor and make alternate arrangements, such as working remotely, to the extent possible.

Visitors to Olds College

All visitors and contractors are expected to take all reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to members of the Olds College community, including the precautions described above.

If a member of the College community has plans to host visitors to any Olds College campus, they are required to assess the risk exposing the community to COVID-19. This includes confirming that any visitors who have traveled to or from high-risk locations designated by the Government of Canada as “Level 2” or above have taken the appropriate steps regarding self-isolation for 14 days regardless of their current health.  If the host in conjunction with their College leader is unable to obtain reasonable assurance that there is no risk to the community, they should consider cancelling the visit or making alternate arrangements.
