March 23, 2021 COVID-19 Update

The Government of Alberta announced that as of March 22, 2021 we will be remaining in Step 2 of restriction changes to Alberta’s Public Health Measures in response to COVID-19. It is very important that we continue to follow all public health measures.

Mask Directive: Non-medical masks or face coverings that cover the mouth and nose are mandatory for all on-campus indoor public spaces, including classrooms, hallways, washrooms and other common-use spaces. Masks are not mandatory if you are working alone in an office or cubicle or where a barrier is in place. Masks must be worn outside if social distancing protocols can not be met. 

Essential staff and students coming onto campus must complete the daily health assessment using the Olds College Alert App. 

Anyone feeling unwell should stay home and call Health Link 811 or fill out the AHS COVID-19 Self Assessment tool.  Any student who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 that are not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition should fill out the Student Isolation Registration form.

Fall 2021 Return to Campus

Last week the Government of Alberta issued a statement encouraging Alberta’s post-secondary institutions to prepare for a full return to campus for fall 2021. Over the coming weeks the College’s Emergency Operations Team (EOT) will work with the College Leadership Team to create a fall 2021 return to campus plan that meets the safety requirements set out by Alberta Health Services and Advanced Education. More details on the fall return to campus will be released as they are available.

Update 33: March 23, 2021

The Government of Alberta announced that as of March 22, 2021 we will be remaining in Step 2 of restriction changes to Alberta’s Public Health Measures in response to COVID-19. It is very important that we continue to follow all public health measures. 

Social Gatherings and Services on Campus 

  • No indoor social gatherings are permitted in any setting (campus housing, public spaces or workspaces).

    • Lunchrooms and student lounges on campus will remain closed.

    • No in-person meetings are permitted. 

  • Outdoor social gatherings can have up to 10 people, physical distancing must be maintained or masks must be worn. 

  • Elements Dining Hall is open for in-person dining. One person per table (with a max capacity of 30 diners total) will be permitted; takeout service is also available. 

  • CLC Fitness Centre is now open for one-on-one indoor fitness training by appointment only.

  • Learning Commons is open with restrictions; staff are available to offer services through a virtual format. 

  • Mandatory work from home measures are still in place unless the College determines that work requires a physical presence for operational effectiveness.

    • College people managers are working with the Emergency Operations Team to determine what positions need to continue to work on campus.

  • Indoor campus spaces are closed to visitors with the exception of our retail meat store, Olds College Brewery and the Campus Store.  

  • In-person health and wellness programs are closed.
