Update 4: March 15, 2020

Classes Canceled

The Government of Alberta has made the decision to cancel all face-to-face instruction for post-secondary institutions. As a result Olds College is suspending all classes from March 16-20, 2020.

This will give our faculty teams time to prepare to move to alternative teaching models (including online delivery). We are hopeful the province will provide us with permission to resume classes in an online format beginning Monday, March 23, 2020. This decision applies to credit and non-credit courses, including apprenticeship courses.

Olds College campuses will remain open. Staff and faculty are expected to still attend work. Campus housing and dining services will continue as normal for students.

We will provide updates to the College community as soon as information is received.

New COVID-19 Self Assessment

Alberta Health Services has launched a new COVID-19 Self Assessment tool.  If you have symptoms such as fever, cough and difficulty breathing, stay home and call Health Link 811 or use the new assessment tool.

Members of the College community who share a household with an individual who has been directed to self-isolate by Alberta Health Services is expected to also self-isolate unless advised otherwise by Alberta Health Services. College staff are expected to discuss the situation with their supervisor and make alternate arrangements, such as working remotely, to the extent possible.

Students Reporting an Absence

Students who have been advised to self-isolate must fill out the Reporting Student Absence form so that accommodations can be made for your classes, and other supports can be put in place, as required. Such as food delivery for students living in campus housing.

Staff Reporting an Absence

Staff required to self-isolate based on a recommendation from Alberta Health Services, or who are caring for a loved one with COVID-19, must fill out the Reporting Staff Absence form and notify their direct supervisor.

Large Gatherings Over 250 Canceled

As requested by the Alberta government, Olds College will be canceling all large gatherings and events scheduled from today until April 30, 2020. This includes all external and student events that have more than 250 attendees. Events that do not meet these criteria can proceed, but risk mitigation must be in place, such as sanitizer stations and distancing between attendees.

Employees Attending Meetings

Olds College employees are advised when possible to meet over the phone (conference) or electronic web meetings, etc. Only those external meetings (onsite or offsite) deemed essential to College operations are permitted.  Seek clarification from your supervisor if you have any questions.

Travel Restrictions Update

All Olds College related international travel by students and staff is not permitted until further notice.

Personal Travel: Olds College strongly recommends staff carefully assess personal travel plans and familiarize themselves with the risks of travel according to the Alberta Government: Travel outside of the country is not being recommended at this time. Given the rapid global spread of the virus, it is no longer possible to assess health risks for the duration of the trip. As per Alberta Health Services direction, any person returning from outside of the country (after March 12) should self-isolate for 14 days, even if they are feeling well, and monitor for symptoms. Employees are encouraged to work from home during this period, if possible and must fill out the Reporting Staff Absence form.
