Update 8: March 19

All classes remain suspended from March 16-20, 2020. Classes will resume Monday, March 23 in an online or alternate format. 

Your Instructors will be in contact with you by March 23, 2020 via email about the details on the new delivery of your courses. Student safety continues to be our first priority and, as such, as of Friday, March 20 at 4:30 p.m. all faculty and student meetings will be done virtually. There will be no in-person classes or student/faculty meetings offered for the remaining of the Winter semester. 

As stated by the Alberta Government, the March-April and May-June intakes for apprenticeship training are cancelled, this includes any Apprenticeship program that started after March 2, 2020. Campus Housing

The health and safety of our staff and students continues to be our top priority. We are now also asking all students who are still living in campus housing or have personal belongings in housing to vacate their residence by Sunday, March 22 at 10 p.m. Students who are unable to do so or who would experience a hardship should contact CHOC. Exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis. 

A refund for early withdrawal from residence will be applied to your account without penalty. Please allow 6 - 8 weeks for processing time. Students moving out of residence will also be removed from the meal plan and refunded from the move out day listed on the Move Out Notice form.

Campus Remains Open with Restrictions

  • Based on the guidelines provided by the Alberta Government, the following public spaces on Olds College will be closed, including:
    • the Atrium located in the Land Science Building, Wetlands and Botanic Gardens
    • CLC Fitness Centre, riding arenas and gymnasiums 
    • The Crossing, Tim Hortons and Centre Court in RKC
    • All student lounges, such as the Hive
  • Elements Dining Hall will have reduced hours, and limit capacity to 50 patrons at a time. New Hours: 7:00 - 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. daily.
  • The Learning Commons front desk is open, however the social spaces in the Learning Commons are closed. 
  • The computer lab located beside the Learning Commons will be open weekdays, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Social distancing protocol must be followed when using the computer lab.
  • The Health & Wellness Centre remains open, however all counseling appointments will now be done over the phone or through video conference. Doctors will not be on campus, the school nurse will be available. 
  • The Retail Meat Store will remain open until Friday, March 20. 
  • Friday, March 20 will be the last horticulture sale. 
  • The Brewery will remain open, but limit patrons allowed in at one time.
  • Events that have 50 or more attendees will be canceled. 
  • All student events have been canceled, including Long Night Against Procrastination. 

Staff & Faculty Working from Home

The health and safety of our staff and students continues to be our top priority. Beginning Monday, March 23 employees are asked to work from home when operationally possible. Employees who are required to perform a critical function and/or whose physical presence is necessary to perform their work as determined by their supervisor will need to continue to come to campus.
