Exercise Rider & Jockey Alum Receives Award Nomination

Brandon DuchaineOlds College alumnus Brandon Duchaine has been named as a finalist for the prestigious Sovereign Award for Outstanding Apprentice Jockey. Brandon is a graduate of the College’s Exercise Rider and Apprentice Jockey program.

This is the latest in a string of successes for Brandon.  In 2015, Brandon was invited to represent Canada at the Apprentice Jockey Championship race that was a part of the International Federation of Arabian Horse Racing Festival in Warsaw, Poland, winning the race in stunning fashion as he came from the back of the pack to win the race by five lengths. This win earned Brandon a place in the finals of this prestigious circuit, which was hosted in Abu Dhabi.

The Sovereign Awards are presented annually to recognize Canada’s Champion Thoroughbred horses and horsemen. The Sovereign Awards honour the best horses in divisional categories and celebrate Owner, Trainer, Breeder, Jockey and Apprentice Jockey categories. The Awards will be presented at the 43rd Annual Sovereign Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
