Save the Date!
Fibre Week 2017:  June 16-22

Fibre Week 2016 was a huge success, and planning is already underway for Fibre Week 2017.

Call for Proposals!

Interested in teaching at Fibre Week 2017?

We are looking for proposals for half-day (3 hour), full-day, 2 day, or 3 day workshops. Fibre Week 2017 takes place June 16 - 22, 2017, with the workshops to take place over the weekend. We welcome workshop proposals in all areas of the Fibre Arts, with a focus on spinning, weaving, felting, dyeing, and knitting. Our participants tend to be at a beginner to intermediate level of their craft.

We also welcome workshop proposals with a broader scope, as long as they are related to the Fibre Arts (examples include fleece workshops and/or workshops to assist fibre arts business owners)

Click here to submit your proposal.

Proposals will be accepted until: September 15, 2016

Decisions on workshops will be made by. October 14, 2016

Proposals are evaluated based on the fit with Olds College Fibre Week programming, budget and expenses. Preference is given to instructors who provide workshop proposals to cover multiple days, and can accommodate at least 12 students in a full class.

All instructors chosen for Fibre Week will be sent a contract from Olds College confirming arrangements. Please note that your workshops must be filled to minimum number of registrants by May 15, 2017 for the workshop to proceed. If there is not sufficient registration, the workshop may be cancelled. Minimum capacity is determined by Olds College.

In order to avoid duplication and ensure that workshops achieve maximum enrollment, we ask that instructors do not offer the workshop(s) proposed within 250kms of Olds (including Edmonton & Calgary) within the province of Alberta within 6 months of Fibre Week.

Please fill out a separate proposal form for each workshop you wish to offer.

Canadian Instructors’ Note:

Instructors can expect the usual Canadian tax withholdings on their instructional earnings in accordance with the Canadian Income Tax Act. Your expenses, however, will be reimbursed in full as per the contract agreement.

US Instructors’ Note: Payments to Nonresidents of Canada

All earnings are paid in Canadian Dollars.

Olds College must withhold and remit 15% of your instructional earnings in accordance with the Canadian Income Tax Act. At tax time, usually in February, you will be mailed an NR4 statement which you can then use when you file your tax information. Your expenses, however, will be reimbursed in full as per the contract agreement. If this will cause any inconvenience or difficulty, please take this into consideration when setting instructional fees.

Olds College will collect all materials fees for workshops at the time of registration. Materials fees will be reimbursed in full as part of the payment of expenses.

As more courses are confirmed, many of you are wondering about additional information, and course materials.  Due to the volume of participants that we have joining us at Fibre Week, we will be contacting our participants to update you as to what's going to be happening on campus.  At that time, we'll also remind workshop participants of the supplies they need to bring, and will email a pdf version of the modules for our Master Spinner and Weaver program participants (no need to print it, there will still be a hard copy waiting for you in your class).  Be sure to look for the email!
