Board Chair Honoured as a Woman of Excellence
Leona Staples, Chair of the Olds College Board of Governors, was among 13 recipients honoured at the Women of Excellence Awards in Red Deer on Wednesday, June 6. Leona was recognized in the Agriculture category.
"I am deeply honoured to receive this recognition as a Woman of Excellence in Agriculture,” says Leona. “This recognition reflects three of my passions; family, volunteering, and agriculture. My family has been involved in the agriculture industry for over 100 years. Our farm provides the opportunity for families throughout Alberta to visit and learn about where their food comes from. This recognition is shared with my family and all the wonderful families who continue to support The Jungle Farm."
Leona’s roots are firmly planted in the central Alberta region. Her experience in business, agriculture, and innovation has contributed greatly to the success of The Jungle Farm. Alongside her husband Blaine, Leona has positioned The Jungle Farm to thrive by supplementing traditional agricultural markets with a variety of non-traditional projects. Central Alberta families flock to The Jungle Farm for its “U-Pick” fruits and vegetables, general store and greenhouse, seasonal events, and agriculture education opportunities.
