Enactus Olds College Team Surprises at Nationals

Enactus Team Enactus Olds College team members Johanna Murray (Agriculture Management) and Caitlyn Dobovich (Business) have been in Toronto this week, competing at the Enactus National Exposition. The competition uses entrepreneurial thinking to solve the United Nations 17 development goals. They do this by creating community outreach projects and business ventures and presenting them in live presentation based competitions.

The team presented on Tuesday, May 15, and they did an amazing job.  Their project focussed on solving the problem of eliminating waste products from the brewing industry. The project outlined how to turn the spent grain from the brewing process into a bio-fertilizer by using the carbon dioxide that is released during the fermentation phase to speed up the production of greenhouse products. The team has laid the foundation for the project this year, and has began trying different enzymes to see which ones will work the best.

The team made an amazing presentation and fielded a number of questions from expert panelists. Thanks to the quality of their presentation, Enactus Olds College was presented with the Enactus Spirit award, an award for a team not moving on the the semi-final round, but who have demonstrated great impact in their community while working within the Enactus judging criterion, although they may have not yet produced results that are finished or polished.

Congratulations Johanna and Caitlyn on your Spirit of Enactus Award, and on a successful presentation.
