The Fashion Institute Hosts The Spring Show

Fashion Show

April 29, 2018  | Calgary, Alberta - The Fashion Institute by Olds College celebrated a year of success by welcoming over 300 guests to The Spring Show, presented by Mercedes-Benz Downtown Calgary. The Spring Show featured garments designed and crafted by 37 Fashion Apparel student designers, many of whom had multiple pieces in the show. All student entries in The Spring Show were selected by a jury of fashion experts based on the quality of the garment.

“I am honoured to have the opportunity to showcase my projects and hard work at The Spring Show,” states 2018 Fashion Apparel Technology graduate Bret Stankowski. “Being featured in a high level production fashion show to industry professionals and the world is an opportunity that I am grateful for.”

Headlining the show was an exclusive show from The Fashion Institute alumnus Spencer Badu, and his brand S.P. BADU. Spencer Badu has been designing for five years and has taken the fashion industry by storm with his line, S.P. BADU.  S.P. BADU is a cult unisex brand aiming to create a post-gender world, creating progressive wardrobe staples that incorporate masculine and feminine elements.

“I am excited to return to Calgary and show my collection at The Fashion Institute by Olds College’s Spring Show,” states Badu. “I have learned so much from The Fashion Institute and these skills have helped me build my aesthetic and career. I can’t wait to show my former instructors what I've been working on and I hope to inspire Fashion Institute students and graduates to follow there design dreams.”

The evening also featured the presentation of The Telio Scholarship. The scholarship is a $1,000 award granted to a graduating Apparel student who has stood out from his or her peers. To qualify, graduating Apparel Technology students with successful juried garments selected for the Year End Fashion Show submitted a 500 word essay discussing prospective requirements in moving their garments through the value chain. Congratulations to Emily Woodman, the 2018 recipient of the Telio Scholarship.

Event organizers once again partnered with PARK, Calgary’s leaders in fashion show production, for this years show. “We are proud of the creativity and skill shown by our Apparel Technology students this year,” explains BR Pirri, Campus Supervisor of The Fashion Institute by Olds College. “The Spring Show gives us an amazing opportunity to showcase the excellence of our current students and of one of our most successful recent alumnus.”
