Sexual Violence Awareness Week

-submitted by Shanaye Gionet, SAOC

Sexual Violence Awareness WeekWhy should you talk about sexual violence and consent? Because it is a topic that not many talk about. It is a topic that many still don’t know how to talk about.  Most importantly, it is sometimes confusing as to what is okay and not okay during sexual interactions. It is important that we all educate ourselves and others, and that we know your rights by law when you are in an uncomfortable sexual interaction at any time.  This is why we, the Students Association of Olds College, are embracing Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

Sexual Violence Awareness Month takes place in May. This began May 1, 2018 when the government of Alberta launched the commitment to end sexual violence. At Olds College, we are embracing this movement early, as we are nearing the completion of the academic year and want this to be at the front of everyone’s minds.  This movement began on May 1, 2018 when the government of Alberta launched the commitment to end sexual violence.

Join us this week as we work to educate everyone on sexual violence awareness, interacting with survivors of sexual misconduct, and raising awareness on sexual assault and violence.
