Students Association Encouraging Students to Get Out the Vote
The Students’ Association of Olds College (SAOC), in partnership with Alberta Students Executive Council (ASEC), has undertaken a campaign that encourages students to vote in the upcoming provincial election, scheduled for Tuesday, April 16. Get Out the Vote encourages students to register to vote, find the location of their polling station, and become informed on the issues, in order to ensure that all students can cast their ballot in an informed manner.
“It is crucial that students get informed,” states Laura McKinnon, outgoing SAOC President. “There is a lot of misinformation out there, especially on social media, so visit the party websites, read the platforms, and see where your priorities align.”
According to Elections Alberta, college students can choose to vote either in the riding they were living in before beginning their studies, or the riding they are living in while enrolled in post-secondary. Even out-of-province students can vote by requesting a special ballot.
Students are encouraged to register to vote, which can be done in less than five minutes online at elections.ab.ca, or by joining the SAOC at pre-registration events on campus. All you need is an Alberta Driver’s License or Identification Card, and to show up at the following locations;
April 1, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the LRC Rotunda
April 3, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. in the Library
April 5, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Students’ Association office
