New edition of Horizons now available

The latest edition of Horizons magazine is now available. In this edition — Growing the Future of Agriculture — we explore recent initiatives and projects taking place on the Olds College campus and Smart Farm that challenge the way we tackle big agricultural issues using up-and-coming smart ag technology.

Some of the projects you can learn about include:

  • Kadeema Jean, an Olds College International Student from the Commonwealth of Dominica who is taking on the biodegradable plastic market by storm after winning the first UFA Pitch Competition in April 2020.

  • Interested in autonomous agricultural equipment? The Olds College Smart Farm is using the fully autonomous DOT Power Platform as a teaching and research tool.

  • Love a good brew? The Olds College Smart Farm collaborated with Decisive Farming, Grain Discovery and Red Shed Smarting to produce at the Olds College Brewery a fully traceable beer using blockchain technology.

  • Olds College’s collaboration with the University of Calgary to help figure out the health impacts of optimized preconditioning in beef cattle through a pan-Alberta collaborative platform, The Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR): One Health Consortium.

We are always searching for new and interesting stories to feature about our alumni in Horizons.
