Flags Lowered On Campus
In solemn recognition of the lives and spirits of the 215 children whose remains were discovered on the grounds of the Kamloops Residential School, we are lowering the flags on the Olds College campus.
The flags will be lowered beginning Monday, May 31 for a period of 215 hours: one hour for each child – as a sign of our shared grief and to pay respect to the children, their families and their communities.
As a college located on the traditional territory of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and all people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, including the Tsuu T’ina and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, we affirm our commitment to implementing the actions of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
We are committed to the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, not just with words but real action. As Canadians, we must commit to teaching this history so we can commit to a better future.
