The free two-hour event was live streamed from the Alumni Centre on the Olds College campus, in celebration of Alberta’s agriculture industry and the important role that it plays in our world. The event replaced the College’s annual fundraiser, Homestead Feast, that had been canceled for a second year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Emceed by local radio celebrity, Jeff Dyck, host of “The Big JD Morning Show” on 96.5 CKFM All Hitt Country, A Celebration of Alberta Ag showcased the College’s hands-on program offering through prerecorded video and live interviewers. The live portion of the event featured guest speakers from Olds College, including President Stuart Cullum, as well as, Vice Presidents Patrick Machacek and Debbie Thompson, and Associate Vice Presidents Dr. Joy Agnew and Dr. Peter Mal.

The evening's program also premiered Olds College’s 2021 Partner of the Year video, recognizing TELUS Agriculture for their million dollar partnership in support of the Olds College Smart Farm and the development, acceleration and integration of technology into the global agri-food value chain.

Viewers tuning into the event also enjoyed two live acoustic performances by Alberta born country music star — Corb Lund, as well as, a virtual jingle dance performance by Falon Manywounds, Calgary Stampede First Nations Princess, who was unable to attend due to enhanced health restrictions.

The event was co-emceed by Olds College’s Tay Miller, Communications Coordinator, Marketing and Communications and MyKaela Bauer, Administrative Clerk, Campus and Facilities, who also promoted the Text-to Give fundraising campaign in support of student awards.

The College would like to send a huge thank you to all the viewers, volunteers, vendors and sponsors who helped to make the event a success. Special thanks to Olds College’s Jason Finnigan and Lynn McDonald for building the iconic red barn set featured throughout the live portions of the event.
