We have a number of non-credit courses available throughout the year that will help your small business operate more effectively. Agricultural accounting and training on AgExpert software is available through our online Agribusiness Accounting course in the Rural Finance and Entrepreneurship Certificate.

Accounting Fundamentals 1 | 6 Weeks (online)

New classes start once per month

Learn the basics of double-entry bookkeeping, how to analyze and record financial transactions, and prepare various financial reports at the end of the fiscal period. Work with accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll procedures, sales taxes, and various common banking activities from writing cheques to preparing an income statement and closing out accounts at the end of each fiscal period. Suitable for either a small business or an individual household, you will increase your financial awareness and accountability.

Explore the world of Corporate Accounting as you learn about the use of special journals, uncollectable accounts receivable, plant assets, depreciation, notes and interest, accrued revenue and expenses, dividends, retained earnings, and various financial reports for corporations.

Experience the simplicity of using Sage 50 Accounting from start to finish. Create and set up a company, set up a Chart of Accounts, record daily accounting transactions, pay bills, make Sales Tax payments, do Banking transactions, and complete month-end Financial Statement reports.

Course Length: 20 - 25 Hours. 3 months access to complete.

Manage your company’s financial information effectively and provide efficient reporting of profits.  Work with payroll, inventory, projects and job costing, departments and departmental accounting, company budgets and year end procedures.

Course Length: 20 - 25 Hours. 3 months access to complete.

Tuition: $360 + GST

*These classes are all delivered in partnership between Olds College and Ed2Go, based in the US. As a result, the content is US based.  While US examples will be used, for small businesses generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) are relatively similar between the US and Canada at the introductory level. Tuition is in US funds.
