Administrative Assistant Certificate
The Administrative Assistant Certificate provides you with a wide range of skills that will be utilized in the office environment. This program will prepare you to work in various office settings as well as providing skills that can be utilized in your own business or farming operations.
The certificate consists of 5 courses which are all offered in an online format which allows you to complete your work at the time of day best suited to your situation. Each course can be taken as a stand-alone course to enhance your current skill set, or you can combine all 5 to complete your Administrative Assistant Certificate. You will also be able to gain credit for 3 of the certificate courses towards the Olds College Business Management Certificate. As a student in this program you will learn a variety of skills including communications, presentation and writing skills, computer applications, bookkeeping and office procedures.

For students applying for thein-person Ponoka offering, a Letter of Acceptance will be sent once the application fee has been received. Applicants will be accepted on a first registered, first accepted basis.

Eligibility for Student Loans: For eligible students taking the full-time, in-person offering in Ponoka, 3 of the courses in this program are eligible for Alberta Student Loans. Upon receipt of the Acceptance Letter you will receive details about applying for funding.

Students will work with a variety of software, including selected Microsoft Office programs, to create and edit business documents. The exploration of various Apps and Web Design applications will provide students with a foundation for application of these technology tools for other courses and the workplace.
Required Materials: You will be required to have access to a desktop computer or a laptop computer in addition to a current version of Microsoft Office in order to complete course assignments and activities.

In this course students develop writing and presentation skills. Students will apply rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation and mechanics in the development of letters, email and short reports as well as other documents relevant to their industry. Students will demonstrate strategies and techniques for creating informative and persuasive presentations.

In this course students will gain a brief exposure to commonly used bookkeeping software’s but mainly focus on the fundamentals and procedures used in business bookkeeping. Producing invoices and receipts, managing accounts payable and receivable along with reconciling and balancing accounts are just a few key areas of study in this course.
