9 in 1 Digital Camera Memory Card Reader

This memory card reader is located at computer number 30.

Step 1. Accessing

  1. Logon to computer number 30.
  2. Double click on My Computer
  3. The digital camera memory card reader uses one of the following drive letters:
    1. Removable Drive W: Kodak DC 210 digital cameras (compact flash)
    2. Removable Drive X: Olympus 210 & 730 digital cameras (smart media and xD)
    3. Removable Drive Y: currently not being used
    4. Removable Drive Z: Sony digital video camera (Sony memory stick)

Reading the Smart media digital memory card

  1. Hold Smart media memory card with contacts facing up, and towards card reader.
  2. Insert into lower left hand slot of card reader.

Reading the xD digital memory card

  1. Insert xD memory card into adaptor as illustrated.a
  2. Hold adaptor with contacts facing up, and towards the card reader.
  3. Insert memory card into lower left hand slot of card reader.

Reading the Compact flash digital memory card

  1. Hold Compact memory card label side up, with contact holes facing card reader.
  2. Insert memory card into the upper left hand slot of card reader.

Reading the Sony digital memory stick

  1. Hold Sony memory stick label side up, with contact holes facing card reader.
  2. Insert memory card into the upper right hand slot of card reader.

Step 2. Finding the folder you need

Here are the folder sequence for:

Compact Flash: W:\DCIMAGES
Smart media & xD: X:\DCIM\100OLYMP
Sony memory stick: Z:\DCIM\101MSDCF

  1. Double click on the subfolder(s) until you get a list of files.
  2. Click on View, then Thumbnails to get small images of each image.

Step 3. Transferring image files from the memory card.

  1. Highlight the files or folder you want to copy
  2. Click on Edit from the menu
  3. Click on Copy
  4. Find the drive H: (your home folder) or E: to burn to a CD (Making a CD How-to file)
  5. Click on Edit
  6. Click on Paste

Step 4. Editing an image

Most student access computers have the Irfaview program on them. There are instructions for using Irfaview here.
