How To Find Out If Olds College Library Has the Article
- If the article is in a journal, newspaper, or magazine, you need to determine if Olds College Library or another NEOS library has that journal, magazine or newspaper.
- Check in the Olds College Library Catalogue. Do a title search by the name of the magazine. Select "periodical/serial" in the optional limiters drop down menu. REMEMBER: Only the magazine or journal title will be listed in the library catalogue. Do not use the title of the article. (For more information see the tutorial entitled, "Using the Library Catalogue)
- View "Details". Check the holdings near the bottom of the page to see whether the Olds College Library has the periodical. Pay attention to the holdings record to see what years are available. We usually keep the two most current years of a periodical on the periodical shelves. If the issue you want is prior to those dates, please ask the library staff for assistance.
- If Olds College Library does not have the title but another NEOS library does, fill out an "Interlibrary Loan Request" form and bring it to the Reference counter. Library staff will request the article for you.
- If the periodical title is not available from NEOS, library staff will try to get it from another library if possible. Items other than North American published magazine articles can be difficult and expensive to obtain. Articles published prior to the 1990's can also be hard to find. Library staff will make a reasonable effort to fill your interlibrary loan requests, but sometimes the source cannot be found in the time you have available. Interlibrary loans from non-Neos sources may take up to three weeks to be received.
OR Use A to Z:
- From the Library Homepage select "Find an Article".
- In the box entitled, "Find a Journal Title in A to Z", type the title of the magazine or journal you are looking for and click "Search".
- Find the title you are looking for on the list which appears. It will show where it is available. i.e. Databases which index the title, if it is available in e-journal format, or if the library carries it in hard copy. Electronic references will provide a direct link.
