
Limit Your Search
Getting back too few results?
- Use a more general term,
- e.g. flower is more general than rose,
- fish is more general than trout.
Getting back too many results?
- Click on the “ Advanced Search” option from the menu bar.
- Use narrower terms, e.g. rose is narrower than flower.
- Add words, e.g. North American roses.
- Use variations of words, e.g. rose, roses, Rosa, Rugosa Roses.
- Checking the box marked "to documents with full text" will return only those articles which are available in their entirety as in the magazine or journal.
- Checking the box next “to peer-reviewed publications” will return articles which have been reviewed by experts in the field. “Scholarly” or "Refereed" are other terms often used.
- Enter dates to return articles published within a particular time period.
"Help" is available if needed.
Checking the box next to "to documents with full text" will return only articles with full text.
Searching within a particular journal title is another option. Scroll down to this option.
Individual databases can be searched directly without using PowerSearch by selecting “Find an Article” from the Library webpage and then selecting “Databases”. A list of available databases will appear by subject. Click on the database you wish to search and enter your search terms or restrict your search as above.
